In Ayurveda, morning rituals set the tone for a balanced and vibrant day. Here’s a simple routine you can incorporate:

  1. Wake Up Early: Rise with the sun to align with nature’s rhythm.
  2. Tongue Scraping: Use a tongue scraper to remove ama (toxins) from the tongue.
  3. Gandush (Oil Pulling): Swish a tablespoon of sesame or coconut oil in your mouth for 5-10 minutes.
  4. Hydrate: Drink a glass of warm water with ginger or coriander to flush out toxins.
  5. Nasya (Nasal Drops): Administer a few drops of nasya oil in each nostril to lubricate and cleanse the nasal passages.
  6. Abhyanga (Self-Massage): Perform a gentle self-massage with warm oil suitable for your dosha.
  7. Pranayama and Yoga: Engage in deep breathing exercises and a short yoga session to energize your body.
  8. Shower: Take a warm shower to cleanse and refresh your body after yoga and meditation.

A few tips

The Sun Salutations, with their warming and stimulating nature, can help balance Kapha and Vata doshas, which tend to be more predominant in colder seasons or climates. Incorporate periods of rest and relaxation to allow the body to recover and rebuild after physical exertion after the Sun Salutation. Ayurveda emphasizes the importance of balancing activity (rajasic) with rest (tamasic) to maintain overall health and vitality.

Nutrition Suggestions:

  1. Hydration: Drink warm water infused with lemon or herbal teas like ginger tea before and after your practice. This helps to hydrate the body and aids in detoxification.
  2. Pre-practice Fuel: Consume a light snack or a handful of nuts about 30 minutes before your practice. This provides sustained energy without feeling overly full.
  3. Post-practice Nourishment: After practicing Sun Salutations, opt for a nutritious breakfast such as a smoothie with fruits and leafy greens, or a warm oatmeal bowl topped with nuts and seeds. This replenishes energy stores and supports muscle recovery.
